Viognier (pronounce “Vyon yay”), the official grape of the Commonwealth of Virginia, is known for its big perfume aromatics and its childish reluctance to behave in the vineyard, a behavior so poor that this grape was once threatened with extinction. But it's worth the trouble – this low-yield, temperamental varietal is exceedingly tasty and our most popular wine, so much so that we recently added more Viognier vines, bringing our property total to 4,500. We're proud to grow some of the best Viognier in the state, and treat it with the delicacy it deserves, soaking the crushed grapes on their skins before giving the juice a long, cool fermentation in stainless tanks. The wine emerges fresh and lively, full of peach and stone fruit flavors, with a richness the official Virginia grape is known for.
